My Birthday in Koh Samui, Thailand

For my birhday, Bastian and I took a longer weekend off and travelled to Koh Samui. It is a wonderful small island in Thailand and around one hour flight away from Singapore.




We enjoyed some thai massage, manicure and pedicure :O)

And of course celebrated my 27th birthday!!!

Day trip to Pulau Rawa in Malaysia - It feels like heaven!

Bastian had the spontenous idea to do a day trip to Pulau Rawa. We heard a lot about the beautiful small island in Malaysia, so we decided on Friday night to organize the trip for the following day. We contacted a driver that picked us up at 4am the next morning!!! I was still sceptical, if we could make it to Malaysia and back to Singapore in one day. But you will see... The driver brought us to Johor Bahru, a small town at the border of Malaysia. From there, another cab drove us to Mersing, a little fishing town which is also better known as a jumping-off point to the half dozens of islands near it. With a small speed boat, we finally arrived at Pulau Rawa. The journey was pretty exhausting and adventorous, so was it really worth it ????

Once we arrived at the island, there were no doubts: This is one of the most beautiful islands I have ever seen: Stretches of white sugary sand, secluded beaches, crystal-clear green water and swaying palm fronds offering cooling shades.

Bastian and I enjoyed a wonderful day at the beach.

There are just two little hotels and one restaurant at the beach, but the food was surprisingly good :O)

We will definitely come back to Rawa. It was just like in paradise!!!

Our favorite restaurant in Singapore!

Mama, dies ist unser Lieblingsrestaurant in Singapore. Es heisst "Din Tai Fung" und bietet diese koestlichen chinesesischen Maultaschen und frische Nudelsuppen an.Sie schmecken fast so gut wie Du sie zu Hause immer machst :O)
Das Restaurant ist immer ausgebucht und man muss fast eine halbe Stunde fuer einen Tisch warten.Und das sind die beruehmten chinesischen und mit Schweinefleisch gefuellten Maultaschen. Einfach himmlisch !!!!!

Bastis Lieblingsgericht sind die in scharfer Chillisauce eingelegten Maultaschen :O)

Ohne Worte. Einfach nur Genuss pur!

Singapore - A food paradise

While Bastian and I are still waiting for our furniture and goods to be shipped over from San Francisco, we are exploring the Asian kitchen and making some pretty new experience:

Have you ever tried Japanase black sesame or sea salt caramel icecream? Well, it tastes like it looks....Nothing to recommend :O)
With one of our friends, we went to a local restaurant and tried a traditional Singaporean dish called Chilli crab, which is made with hard-shell crabs, and cooked in a thick gravy with a tomato chilli base.
Have you ever tried Durian before? I have to admit, it is one of my favorite fruits....
The hard outer husk is covered with sharp, prickly throns while the edible flesh within emits a distinctive odour, which is regarded as either fragrant or overpowering and offensive. The odour of the ripe fruit is strong and penetrating even when the husk is intact. The unusual flavour and odour of the fruit have prompted many people to express diverse and passionate views ranging from deep appreciation to intense disgust.
Beacause of its strong smell, Durian is forbidden in most of the public places in Singapore.

But as you can see, Bastian and I are really enjoying this fruit :O)

A fresh Durian and a lovely coconut, you cannot ask for more......After too much food, Bastian and I enjoyed a day at the pool..............
